Multi-media Classrooms for AthletesThe State Sport General Administration of China has decided to pour some two million yuan (241,000 U.S. dollars) into building seven multi-media classrooms this year for athletes, aiming to enhance their foreign language and computer skills.Construction of five of such training bases, which cover some 55 square meters and accommodate 25 people each, is expected to start in mid-August in Beijing, according to Thursday's Beijing Youth Daily. All the classrooms will be equipped with first-class educational facilities, and the administration will invite seasoned teachers through public bidding to help athletes improve their foreign language skills and learn more computer science skills. The administration, whose major focus was on physical training and all kinds of sports competitions in the past, has begun to give more priority to the development of athletes' all-round quality by enforcing scientific and cultural education, the newspaper quoted an official in charge of the project as saying. |
