Declaration on Forest Protection and Sustainable DevelopmentThe organizing committee of the international seminar on Asian and European forest protection and sustainable development made public the Guiyang Declaration on Asian and European forest protection and sustainable development technology collaboration Thursday.Government officials and scholars from 22 Asian and European countries as well as the European Union attended the three-day seminar in southwestern Guizhou Province. They have talked about the policy and technology of forest protection and sustainable development under the theme of "a new green century." The declaration said that a good ecological environment is vital to human existence and development and the public should be aware of the role of forests which offer indispensable resources to mankind. Technology is the driving force to protect forests and keep them developing, according to the declaration, which stresses that public education, professional training and international cooperation on related technologies should be promoted. Initiated by Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji, the seminar was sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, the State Forestry Administration, the Guizhou provincial government and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Finland. |
