Vice Premier Visits Beijing Tibet SchoolVice Premier Li Lanqing, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, visited Beijing Tibet High School, Thursday, and attended its celebration party marking 50th anniversary of Tibet's peaceful liberation.He addressed the party, saying that China has three major events in July: CPC's 80th birthday, Beijing having won the bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games and Tibet's 50th anniversary of peaceful liberation. He said the nation's achievement and further prosperity rely on the contributions of young people. Tibet as well needs more talents to get developed. He hoped to see more Tibet schools in the inland to give more opportunities to Tibetan young people to receive an education. The vice premier also promised that the central government will strengthen financial aid to Tibet. Li also toured students' dorms and teachers' offices and asked if they are happy to study in Beijing. Launched in 1987, Beijing Tibet High School now has 19 classes of Tibetan boarding students. Many graduates of the school went back to work at their hometowns. |
