Strong Measures Called for to Ensure Safe Production: Official

China will impose tight safety measures in coal mines, fireworks plants, road transportation, chemical products transportation, and in public places in the second half of this year to guarantee safe production, according to an official from the State Administration for Safe Production Supervision.

Zhang Baoming, director of the administration, addressed a national conference held here Friday, saying that the current safety situation is serious as major accidents still occur.

Three serious accidents and one explosion have occurred this July, causing great casualties and economic losses as well as resentment among the people.

Zhang urged related departments to have safety awareness in their minds and to take harsh measures to avoid occurrences of similar accidents.

China reported 350,000 accidents in the first half of this year, killing more than 47,000 people, 64 of which were extra-serious accidents that killed more than 10 people each.
