Katharine Hepburn Undergoing Tests at Hospital; `No Cause for Alarm,' Spokesman Says
Four-time Academy Award winner Katharine Hepburn underwent tests at a hospital Thursday and was expected to go home in a few days.
The nature of the 94-year-old actress's illness was not disclosed. Past health problems include arthritis, pneumonia and Parkinson's-like tremors.
Hepburn was admitted Wednesday evening and was resting comfortably in stable condition Thursday afternoon, Hartford Hospital spokesman James Battaglio said.
``She's up and around and speaking with her physicians,'' Battaglio said late Thursday afternoon. ``Physically she's showing improvement in her overall appearance and her spirit.''
He said if that continues, her doctors think she may be released in the next two or three days. Hepburn, who lives in Old Saybrook, on the Connecticut coast, is a Hartford native; her father was chief of staff at Hartford Hospital.
In an interview in October 1990, she told The Associated Press: ``I'm what is known as gradually disintegrating. I don't fear the next world, or anything. I don't fear hell, and I don't look forward to heaven.'' During her 60-year career, she was nominated for a record-tying 12 Academy Awards and won for ``Morning Glory,'' 1933; ``Guess Who's Coming to Dinner,'' 1967; ``A Lion in Winter,'' 1968; and ``On Golden Pond,'' 1981.
