Cambodia, DPRK Issue Joint Communique

Cambodia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has Issued a joint communique Friday in Phnom Penh, stressing to further develop the traditional relations of friendship and promote the cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides noted with satisfaction that the traditional friendship relations and close cooperation have developed near half century on the basis of the immortal relations between King Norodom Sihanouk and late Kim Il Sung.

The both sides expressed that they will continue to develop their relations based on the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter and other universally recognized principles of international laws and on the Five-Principles set forth in the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, the communique said.

The two sides agreed to further expand and strengthen exchange and cooperation in the political, economic, cultural, educational, sports and other fields in conformity with the interests of the two countries.

The two countries are committed to strengthen the mutual support and cooperation in the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and other Asian Organizations, the United Nations, the Non-aligned Movement and other international fora.

The Korean people highly appreciated the Cambodian people for having achieved the national reconciliation, harmony, unity and secured a peaceful and stabilized the socio-political environment.

The Cambodian side expressed its conviction that the independent reunification of Korea would be materialized by the concerted efforts of the Korean people in North, South and overseas in accordance with North-South Joint Declaration.

The two sides expressed their satisfaction with the fruitful result of the visit of Kim Jong Nam.

Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People' s Assembly of DPRC, arrived in Cambodia for a 4-day state visit on July 17 and concluded his visit Friday.
