Beijing Improves Hi-Tech Innovative CapabilityBeijing has improved its innovative capability in the software, microelectronics, bio-medicine, and new materials industries thanks to a program launched early last year by the local government.
Zhu Yan, vice-director of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technological Commission, said about 2,500 service organizations for starting new high-tech business have been set up.
An incubator system has also been put in place in Beijing, including the science and technological parks set up by universities and multinationals, and 26 incubators built by local technology-intensive enterprises, said the vice-director.
To date, the incubators have helped set up over 500 high-tech enterprises and projects.
Citing an example, Zhu said an incubator for chips has been set up for the micro-electronics industry in Beijing while an integrated circuit research and development center has been set up by Qinghua University.
He said the service organizations and the incubator system have enabled Beijing to develop a sustainable innovative capability for its booming software, microelectronics, bio-medicine and new materials industries.
