Int'l Forum on A-E Forest Protection and Sustainable Development Held in Guiyang

Civil Engineering of Tin Shui Wai Station Completed

July 17 saw West Rail's Tin Shui Wai Station formally complete its civil engineering after two-year construction. Tin Shui Wai Station, the longest station of West Rail, as a vital hub of communications, will provide conveniences for the locals when it opens to traffic in 2003. .

Baby Pandas Given Olympic Games Related Names

Giant panda Lili gave birth to two babies in Chengdu, Sichuan Province on July 14. For celebrating Beijing's success in its bid for hosting the 2008 Olympic Games, the two baby pandas were respectively named "Shenshen" and "Ao'ao" --which together mean in Chinese application for hosting the Olympic Games. Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji stressed the migration drive and moving-out of enterprises in the Three Gorges Project, China's largest water conservation project on the Yangtze River, must be sped up to ensure the completion of the project for water-storage in less than two years.  

South Shaolin Monastery Rebuilt

The monastery is newly rebuilt at the site of the ancient South Shaolin Monastery. The monastery was known far and wide for its martial art, widely known as the southern style of Shaolin form of boxing.

T.V. Relaying Tower Built in Northern Tibet

A television relaying tower has been built recently in Shuanghuyu County in Nagqu Prefecture, the Tibet Autonomous Region. Shuanghuyu, the so called "no-man inhabited" area, is the last county in Tibet of being installed with T.V. relaying system.

Three Gorges Project Under Swift Construction

The water inlets of the Three Gorges dam is under construction in Yichang City in central China's Hubei Province July 18, 2001. The Three Gorges Project has finished nearly 150 million cubic meters of earth and stone, and 16 million cubic meters of concrete poured since it started construction in 1993.
