Israeli-Palestinian Security Meeting Yield No ResultsAn Israeli-Palestinian security coordination meeting were held in Tel Aviv late Wednesday night, but failed to yield results to urge both sides to stick to ceasefire, Israel Radio reported on Thursday. The meeting, also attended by US representatives, "failed to make any progress regarding the implementation of the ceasefire between the two sides," the radio said. Since the U.S.-brokered truce took effect on June 13, Israel and the Palestinians have held several rounds of security meetings, but never made any progress or reached any agreement. It was not immediately clear whether the two sides would hold another session as the situation on the ground is on the brink of a total breakdown. Since Tuesday night, Israel have sent armored vehicles and paratroops to the West Bank to beef up its deployment there, which made the international community suspect that Israel would launch a massive operation to eliminate the Palestinian National Authority led by Yasser Arafat. Earlier Tuesday, Israeli helicopter gunships fired missiles at the West Bank town of Bethlehem, killing four Palestinians, including members of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, or Hamas, in retaliation for the killing of two Israelis in a suicide bombing attack Monday evening in northern Israel.
