S.Lankan Opposition Flexes Muscle for a Showdown This Afternoon

Authorities in Sri Lanka beefed up security here, to block an opposition rally planned for Thursday afternoon, official sources revealed.

Sri Lankan opposition parties, led by the United National Party (UNP), appeared all set to go ahead with their plans aimed at forcing President Chandrika Kumaratunga to restore the Parliament .

It may be recalled, that the opposition had, on Monday, stormed the Parliament building, when the Speaker refused to allow holding of a session of the Parliament, which stands suspended till early September under a presidential order.
