Vajpayee Hopes for Accord in Islamabad
Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on Wednesday hoped that he would sign a comprehensive agreement with Pakistan on all issues during his visit to Islamabad, All India Radio reported quoting Asian Age newspaper.
Vajpayee was briefing the National Democratic Alliance parties on the Agra summit at his official residence in New Delhi. He said that he would soon visit Pakistan. Indian prime minister was invited to visit Pakistan by President General Musharraf during their summit in Agra.
Vajpayee termed his talks with Musharraf successful. He said there was agreement on many issues in the summit. He said issues between Pakistan and India are much complicated and they cannot be resolved in short time. He said both sides had positive expectations during the summit. He said differences and tension exist between Pakistan and India and these should be overcome.
Indian Express quoted Vajpayee as saying that he has invited Musharraf to India to dispel the world impression that New Delhi does not want to resolve differences with Pakistan. His invitation to Pakistani president has benefited India on international level, he said. He said: "we did not lose anything in Agra."
Vajpayee said Pakistan has already been putting pressure on India with regard to the Kashmir issue and it continued this pressure till the end of the Agra summit. But India did not give in to that pressure, he said.
Indian External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh also addressed the meeting. But he could not satisfy the participants on Indian failure at the Agra summit.
