Monthly Charge for Wide-band Network No More than 100 Yuan Acceptable

"Wide-band network" has become one of the hot topic in China's telecom field this year. A recent survey by Economic Situation Monitoring Center of National Bureau of Statistics and CCTV in Guangzhou and Shanghai indicates that for most of the Chinese families the lump-sum access charge for wide-band network should be no more than 1,000 yuan and no more than 100 yuan for monthly charge.

Although there are still many persons not willing to pay for the charge, according to the survey, more than 30 percent of the residents has accepted the charged access. This shows that a large actual market for wide-band network has come to appear in China's cities, especially in those large cities.

The lump-sum fee for access to wide-band network and the monthly charge afterwards are the most sensitive topics to the consumers. The survey also shows that more than half of the responders in Shanghai and Guangzhou hope that the lump-sum fee for wide-band network access is no more than 500 yuan. About 63 and 99 percent of the responders expect the fee to be no more than 1,000 yuan. This proves that 500 yuan is the first threshold for an acceptable charge, while 1,000 yuan the ultimate.

With regard to the monthly fee, 50 yuan and 100 yuan are the two doorsills. About 42 and 60 percent responders of Shanghai and Guangzhou expect the monthly fee to be no more than 50 yuan whereas 60 and 89 percent of them hope it to be lower than 100 yuan.

Besides, the survey also shows that nearly 30 percent of the responders expressed no need for wide-band network in Guangzhou though, the rate reports a little lower 13 percent in Shanghai. Person concerned pointed out that this is because quite a number of persons still do not have much idea about wide-band network and cannot accept the ways of payment for access. Therefore, we should work harder in introducing wide-band network to make the related knowledge more popular among the people and adjust the price for access so as to help get the residents effectively over the threshold into the "wide-band era".
