Adjustment in Development Plan Urged for Olympics

Beijing Mayor Liu Qi has urged all departments of the municipal government to adjust their development plans in line with the standards required by the 2008 Olympic Games.

Beijing's commitments to the International Olympic Committee should fully be honored, said Liu at the first mayor's work meeting after Beijing's successful bid for the Olympics.

When discussing a 5-year hi-tech development plan and a 3-year public transportation development plan at the meeting, Liu said that the targets set forth in both plans should be readjusted in light of the goal that the 2008 Olympics should be the best organized games in history.

He said that the world's best professionals should be invited to join in the planning and preparation for the Olympics, saying only top people can manage top events.
