Protesters Demand Condit's Resignation Over Missing InternAbout 50 people on Tuesday staged protests in Modesto, northern California, demanding Democratic Representative Gary Condit resign over his relationship with a missing intern. The protesters, organized by the politically conservative Web site www.FreeRepublic.com, gathered in front of the conservative Democrat's district office in Modesto, near San Jose, chanting " Where's Chandra" and "Liar, liar, pants on fire." "Chandra" is referred to Chandra Levy, a 24-year-old Federal Bureau of Prisons intern from Modesto who has disappeared in Washington D.C. since early May. Police have been trying in vain to locate her for the past two months, and also conducted search of Condit's Washington apartment for clues to her whereabouts. Condit, from Modesto, initially described Levy as only a "good friend," but admitted to police later that he had sexual relationship with her in fact. "He's a wishy-washy dog, with a big tail, a tale of lies," 71- year-old Democrat Mary Lorenzo, told local TV reporters, calling Condit a coward. Demonstrators said they were disgusted and disappointed with Condit's alleged romance with Chandra Levy. Condit, who has maintained public silence in the case, was in Washington during the demonstration. His chief of staff, Mike Lynch, met with two of the protesters and said that he would forward a letter signed by 10 constituents to Washington.
