ROK Cultural Tourism Week Starts

The celebration of the Korean cultural tourism week starts Tuesday on the busiest street here.

The activity aims to promote friendship between the two nations as well as introduce next year's World Cup and the Asian Olympic Games to Chinese people, according to Choi Jae-Geun, executive director of the Republic of Korea National Tourism Organization (KNTO) Beijing Office.

During the week-long celebrations, a large sheltered area will be built on Wangfujing, the busiest street in downtown Beijing, and inside there will be things highlighting the Korean tourism.

Banners with "2001 Korean Tourism Year" on them and the country 's traditional lanterns will help enhance the Korean atmosphere.

In the next few days, the well-known Young Angel art group made up of Korean children will demonstrate the essence of Korean culture.

Besides, a modern percussion band and a popular singing band will also perform.

The KNTO and several Chinese travel agencies will organize 1, 000 Chinese students to visit the Republic of Korea during their summer vacation.
