China's Telecommunication Industry Reports Rapid Growth

China's telecommunication and post industry registered a business income of nearly 189.4 billion yuan in the first half of this year, up 15 percent from the same period last year, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Information Industry, Tuesday.

Of the total, the telecom industry brought in 166.6 billion yuan, up 14.7 percent and China Post reported 22.8 billion yuan, up 17.1 percent.

As for the three largest telecom operators, China Telecom registered 87.3 billion yuan in income, while China Mobile, registered 62.7 billion yuan, and Chin Unicom, 15.9 billion yuan.

During the period, the investment in this respect totaled 80.7 billion yuan, up 87.7 percent, including 78.6 billion yuan by telecommunication companies.

With huge investment, China increased 590,000 long-distance call lines, leading the total capacity to 2.56 million lines. The total length for long-distance fiber cable is now 303,000 kilometers, increasing 17,000 kilometers from the beginning of the year.
