Central Delegation Arrives in Lhasa for Tibet Peaceful Liberation CelebrationsOfficials with the regional committee of the Communist Party of China, regional government and military area command, led by Pagbalha Geleg Namgyai, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and 600 local people in ethnic dresses met the delegation at the airport. A major ethnic dance and song performance was staged at the airport to express Tibetans' warm welcome to the delegation. The central government of China signed a 17-article agreement with the local government of Tibet on May 23, 1951. Then, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) stationed in Lhasa in October the same year. Delegation members who also arrived in Lhasa Tuesday included Wang Zhongyu, State Councilor, Wang Zhaoguo, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), among others.
