China Seriously Concerned over Japan's Investigation of Towels Imported from China

China is seriously concerned over Japan's investigation of towels, mainly those imported from China, and China resolutely opposes any trade protection measures pursued by Japan.

This is the remark made by Gao Yan, spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC), who commented Monday on the mid-term investigation report on limitations of towels, mainly those imported from China, was issued Monday by the Japanese government.

She said the development of Sino-Japanese trade of textile products is due to the smooth cooperation between the two countries and it is also beneficial to both sides.

The limitation of importing towels by Japan would exert negative impact on the general development of bilateral trade of textile products and the Chinese side wishes the Japanese side to take into account China's position on the issue, she pointed out.

She said there are some problems yet to be solved in bilateral trade and China is reluctant to see that Japan would ignite another dispute and complicate the issue.

The Chinese government thus urges the Japanese government to handle the issue properly based on the general development of bilateral trade and the general trend of free trade in regards to textile products, she added.
