Chinese Defense Minister Meets Nigerian Guests

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met Monday with Nigerian Minister of State for Defense (Navy) Dupe Adelaja and her party.

Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said that China and Nigeria, respectively the most populous developing country in Asia and Africa, have expanded effective cooperation in political, economic and military areas.

Since the two countries forged diplomatic relations, they have enhanced mutual understanding and supported each other on many international issues of common concern, he added.

Chi expressed his gratitude for the firm support from the Nigerian government to China on the issue of human rights and the One-China policy.

On Beijing's victory in bidding the 2008 Olympic Games, Chi said that Adelaja and her party came at a good moment, and he hopes that the Nigerian guests could share the excitation together with all Chinese people.

Chi said this year is the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Nigeria, military cooperation between the countries, an important part of bilateral ties, have enjoyed a good development. Chi added that he was fully convinced the bilateral military ties will be furthered with more exchanges and cooperation.

Adelaja first congratulated on Beijing's win in bidding the 2008 Olympic Games. She also expressed her appreciation for China' s support to Nigerian government.

She said that she expects the relations between Nigeria and China and between military circles of the two countries to be further promoted.
