Chinese, Egyptian News Agencies Sign Cooperation Accord

China's state-run Xinhua News Agency signed in Cairo Monday an agreement on media cooperation with Egypt's official Middle East News Agency (MENA).

Visiting Xinhua President Tian Congming and Mahfouz el-Ansari, MENA's board chairman and chief editor, inked the agreement at the headquarters of MENA.

Under the deal, the two news organizations will exchange news bulletins in the Arabic and English languages, expertise in the press as well as technical and communication domains.

In addition, the two sides will exchange photographs and news reports, provide facilities to each other and render assistance to their correspondents, according to the agreement.

Tian arrived here early Monday morning on a four-day visit to Egypt at MENA's invitation, during which he will also meet with senior Egyptian officials.

Xinhua, founded in 1931, has thus far set up offices in more than 100 countries and established a global communications network. It has cooperative ties with a large number of foreign media organizations.
