He said that in the past thousands of years, the Chinese people have created a wonderful national culture and made due contributions to the development and progress of the world civilization. China has experienced great changes since the founding of New China, especially since the reform and opening up policies in the past 20 years, Li said. With a booming economy, stable society and improving living standard, China's role and status in international affairs are increasing, as shown by the success bid of Beijing for the 2008 Olympic Games. He expressed the hope that the Chinese youth would make the most of the advanced achievements from the world civilization and learn more about the motherland's history and culture. The youth should make more efforts in the revival of the Chinese nation as well as the world progress, he said. The delegation consists of students from 136 universities from across the world including those from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
