Bangladeshi Caretaker Govt Comes Into Being

Justice Latifur Rahman was sworn in as Chief Advisor of the non-party caretaker government of Bangladesi at the Bangabhaban on Sunday evening.

President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed administered the oath at a simple ceremony at the Darbar Hall of the Bangabhaban at 7-35 PM.

With the swearing-in of the immediate past retired Chief Justice-Latifur Rahman--as the head of the third caretaker government of the country, the Awami League government of Prime Minister Sheikh

Hasina automatically ceased to exist.

The Chief Advisor would be assisted by a Council of Advisors whose number would not exceed 10.

As per constitutional provisions, advisors would be appointed by the President on advice of the Chief Advisor.

During the tenure of the caretaker government, the eighth parliamentary elections would be held within 90 days.
