Afghan Universities Abroad Not Recognized by Taliban

Afghanistan's Taliban militia will no longer recognize the academic qualifications from Afghan universities outside the country, a report said on Sunday.

The report said qualifications from the Afghan University in Peshawar in neighboring Pakistan, in particular, would no longer be accepted. The university has almost 3,000 Afghan refugees, 700 of them women.

The Taliban authorities have already banned women from schools and universities in areas under their control in Afghanistan. University officials in Peshawar have expressed concern that this latest move will restrict further the Afghans' already limited access to higher education.
