China to Issue Commemorative Coin for Game Bidding SuccessThe People's Bank of China (PBOC) announced on July 14 that a silver commemorative coin is to be issued on July 15 to celebrate Beijing's success in bidding to host the 2008 Olympic Games.The PBOC said that the obverse design of the silver coin composes the name of China, the year of 2001, colored symbol for bidding the Games, gilded letter "V" and mass gymnastics; while the reverse design bears the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests in the Temple of Heaven, Chinese characters of "celebrating Beijing's successful bidding of the Olympic Games" and the denomination. The coin is made of one ounce of pure silver, round shaped with a diameter of 40 mm and a denomination of 10 yuan. The issuing volume is 60,000. |
