At least 13 people were killed and 21 others injured in a highway accident in southern Peru on July 14, local police said.

The tragedy occurred when a bus collided with a cargo vehicle carrying tomatoes in Ocucaje, 342 kilometers south of Lima, police said.

The bus's driver and conductor and a child were among the dead. Eight of the seriously injured were taken to Felix Torrealba Hospital and most of the other wounded were taken to a regional hospital of the Health Ministry.

Cause of the accident is not immediately known.
