HK Enterprises, Societies Congratulate Beijing on Successful Olympic Bid"We hail, we sing, we support you, our motherland!"-- Hong Kong enterprises and societies offered heartfelt congratulations on July 14 to Beijing on its successful Olympic bid.Vincent Cheng, Hang Seng Bank's vice-chairman and chief executive and member of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said, "Beijing 's successful bid reflects international recognition of the growing significance of China in the sports and economic arenas." "During the bidding process, the world has gained a better understanding of China. This sporting success together with the impending entry to the World Trade Organization will add impetus to economic growth in the Chinese Mainland, and China will grow further in international stature," he added. Mark Lettenbichler, chairman of the Hong Kong Hotels Association, said, "Hong Kong has been a firm supporter of Beijing 's bid to host the Olympics and we feel that this success marks a truly significant turning point in recognizing Beijing as a world class city." He said, "We believe that the Olympic Games in Beijing will provide a significant boost to Hong Kong's tourism industry. We look forward to working closely with Beijing for a very successful Games and to reinforcing Hong Kong as the gateway to China." The World Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations said in its message of congratulation that the 50 million overseas Chinese are overjoyed as the dream came true. It said, "All the overseas Chinese will give firm support to Beijing to make the 2008 Olympic Games the best ever one in the human history.
