British Olympic Chief Executive Welcome Beijing Decision

Simon Cleg, the chief executive of the British Olympic Association (BOA) on Friday welcomed the International Olympic Committee's decision to give Beijing the 2008 Olympic Games.

Cleg congratulated Beijing on winning the vote and praised the IOC for conducting a fair ballot.

"The BOA welcomes today's decision from Moscow," said Clegg. " It is quite obvious that the radical reforms put in place by the IOC following the Salt Lake City scandals have delivered a much more robust bidding process and this must be good news for the Olympic Movement and future bidding cities."

"The Beijing bid was always strong with excellent government support," said Clegg. "The IOC's decision to award the Games to Beijing is excellent news for European cities who hope to attract the 2012 Games," said Clegg.

"We expect that the final decision on whether we should bid or not will not be made until early next year."
