Macao, Taiwan Hail Beijing's Success in Bidding for Olympic Games

Macao and Taiwan people from all walks of life spent a night of revelry Friday to celebrate Beijing 's successful bidding of hosting the 2008 Olympic Games.

Tens of thousands of people gathered at the Golden Lotus Square, singing and dancing, brandishing the national flag and embracing each other, to share the happiness of all the Chinese people in Macao.

A splendid art performance was held at the Macao Museum of Arts. Local artists expressed their congratulations to their motherland with the most exciting songs and languages.

At the sensational news, Macao's young people organized a motorcycle team, shouting out their joy alongside the coastline.

Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), conveyed his warmest congratulations to the Beijing people for their arduous and outstanding efforts in a message to Beijing mayor Liu Qi.

China has become a sports giant, and to host the Olympic Games in Beijing will add a new glorious record in the milestone of the human sports, Ho said.

The Chinese people will definitely combine the preparations for the Olympic Games with the development of the nation, which will benefit Beijing and China as a whole, as well as Macao, the chief executive said.

The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR also sent a congratulatory message to Beijing.

The Postal Services of Macao announced Friday night that a set of new stamps, featuring Beijing's success in winning the 2008 Olympic Games, will be issued as of July 14. Souvenir sheets and first-day covers will be available at the same time.

The Taiwan authorities, through its information bureau and its mainland committee, expressed their congratulations over Beijing's success.

Ordinary people in Taiwan felt excited and happy about the results, while business people see Beijing's success as an opportunity for more business.
