Environmental Journalists Hail Beijing's Win Over Olympic Bid"Beijing's success in its bid for hosting the 2008 Olympic Games brings a big relief to all Chinese, especially reporters who are now working hard on coverage of environmental issues in the country," said Shang Jucheng, head of a group of reporters from central and local news media to study environmental situation in the Yangtze River Area.These reporters, who are now in Wanzhou District, southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, held a festive party after watching the televised Beijing's successful bid. They sang, danced and drank all the night. Since May 29, they started from the mouth of the Yangtze River, the country's largest river, in Shanghai, and then, they have passed through Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hunan and Hubei provinces. On July 6, the reporters arrived in Yichang City, Hubei, to begin their journey in the Three Gorges Dam area which strides Hubei Province and Chongqing Municipality to cover about 50,000 sq. km.. Over the past weeks, they braved the hot and humid Summer climate in the area, visiting local villages and talking with local officials. So far, they have produced a number of news stories and features on local efforts to improve the environment, fight natural calamities and develop local economy.
