China's Largest Water Recreation Park Built on Yangtze
Bustling construction is underway on the embankments of the Yangtze River near Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, not for reinforcing dykes this time, but for building water recreation facilities, part of the country's largest river park.
The flood-prone Yangtze, the largest river in China, meets the Hanjiang River in this city, which has always highlighted anti- flood construction as a crucial annual task.
However, with increasing anti-flood technology used to reinforce the embankments, public fear of flood disasters is lessening. Walking along the elevated embankments along the river has become enjoyable summer entertainment.
The new amusement park will offer over 70 different kinds of water recreation and will be able to receive 700,000 tourists daily.
The municipal government has approved a budget of 2.6 billion yuan for developing the water system in the city, which boasts the largest freshwater resources among major cities in China.
By October, a 600 million-yuan facelift project will turn a 100, 000 square-meter shoreline area into a green public square, which is expected to be the largest of its kind in China.
Tu Yong, vice-mayor of Wuhan, said the government has drawn out plans to boldly develop water-bound tourism in the city.
