State General Administration of Sport Congratulates Beijing Bid Committee

China's State General Administration of Sport, the All-China Sports Federation and the Chinese Olympic Committee Friday sent congratulations to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Bid Committee for its successful bid.

The message said Beijing's winning of the right at the 112th Session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) held in Moscow to host the 2008 Olympic Games is a big event worth of warm celebrations for the Chinese sportsdom and that all the sports workers nationwide are greatly encouraged and overjoyed.

"Holding the Olympic Games in China is a cherished wish of several generations of Chinese sports workers and shared aspiration of all ethnic groups in China," said the message.

The congratulatory message commended the Beijing bid committee for its painstaking and fruitful efforts that have turned the great wish of the Chinese people into reality and extended sincere thanks and salute to the bid committee and whoever has contributed to the bid success.

Since the reform and opening up to the outside world, China has witnessed thriving athletic sports amid rapid economic development, constant social progress, and markedly increasing national strength.

"China's sports circle is pleased by the IOC's correct choice and will mobilize all sports workers in the country to make still greater contributions to the Olympic movement and world peace and progress," said the message.

It expressed the belief that "under the correct leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, and with the support of the whole nation, the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will prove a full success, be written into the chronicles of the international Olympics, and add new impetus to the Chinese socialist modernization drive."
