China Cracks down on 25,000 Duty Crime Cases: AuthorityPeople's procuratorates at different levels in China, by taking strong measures in participating the "Strike Hard" Campaign, straightened and regulated the economic rules of the market and intensified investigations on large and severe duty crime cases in the first half of this year.Han Zhubin, procurator-general of Supreme People's Procuratorate, declared Thursday at national procuratorates video and telephone meeting that from January to June this year, China's procuratorates had cracked 25,073 duty crime cases of corruption, bribery and jobbery, investigated and prosecuted 27,793 persons including 1,781 cadres of above county and division levels. It has thus retrieved a pecuniary loss of 1.58 billion yuan for the country. Han pointed out at the meeting that the people's procuratorates of different levels should continue to carry out the "Strike Hard" Campaign and intensify the investigation and prosecution of duty crimes including corruption, bribery and jobbery in the second half of the year. They should quicken the handling of the cases that are under investigation and bring them to finish in time. The procuratorates should make more efforts to crack down on bribery and continue by strong measures in tracing and digging out special cases in the hide. Meanwhile, they should fight hard against the "umbrella" in protection of the forces under cover as an important means in cracking duty crimes. This is a focal point in furthering the anti-corruption struggle and an important task at that. Han also required the procuratorates to seriously study, thoroughly understand and fully implement the spirit of Jiang Zemin's July 1 Speech and take the "three represents" as a powerful theoretical weapon and guidance for actions in the new era.
