For Common Goal of National Reunification

During the Beijing visit of the delegation representing the New Party of Taiwan, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the delegation reached six points of common acknowledgment.

Vice-Premier Qian Qichen and Chen Yunlin, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee, met with the delegation and exchanged ideas on major issues of the cross- Straits relations.

"The six points of common acknowledgment are of positive significance to propelling the development of the cross-Straits relations, said Qian, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Facts prove that on the basis of the one-China principle, all issues between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits can be negotiated.

The dialogue between counterparts of work organizations of the CPC and Taiwan parties will be conducive to enhancing mutual understanding on cross-Straits relations, national reunification and other major issues.

The success of the dialogues this time was based on a good foundation, that is, both sides agree to the one-China principle and seek the common goal of realizing national reunification.

Hsu Li-Nung, head of the delegation, said in Beijing that the New Party of Taiwan sticks to the one-China principle and agrees that Taiwan is a part of China.

During the day-long dialogue on July 11, the two sides tried to seek common acknowledgment in a frank way while respecting each other's different views. And finally, the two sides reached six points of common acknowledgment on some major issues related to the cross-Straits relations.

Both sides agreed that agricultural exchange and cooperation between the Taiwan Straits should be strengthened after both sides enter the World Trade Organization (WTO). The New Party of Taiwan hopes that investment of Taiwan farmers in the mainland should be encouraged.

Another important result of the dialogue was the establishment of an initial channel and mechanism of party-to-party dialogue.

Such nonscheduled exchanges and dialogues between the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee and the New Party of Taiwan will be conducted, so as to set up a regular dialogue mechanism.

Chen Yunlin expressed the wish to the delegation that The CPC wishes to strengthen cooperation with all parties in Taiwan that agree to the one-China principle with a view to joining efforts to oppose "Taiwan Independence" and striving for further development of cross-strait relations.

The delegation of the New Party of Taiwan left Beijing for home Friday morning.
