China's GRE to Test Language Listening, Verbal Ability

A listening comprehension and a verbal test will be included in next year's graduate examination to improve Chinese graduates' language proficiency, reported Friday's edition of Science and Technology Daily

The article quoted sources with the Education Ministry as saying a foreign language will be required in the five-subject graduate examinations for non-language majors.

A 30-minute listening comprehension section will be added to the written test for English, Japanese and Russian languages. An oral test will also be required.

As for languages other than the English, Japanese and Russian, both listening and verbal tests will be given only after examinees have passed the first round of testing.
