Chinese Vice-President Meets Cape Verde FM
Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao said Friday China highly values the consistent stance of the government of Cape Verde in adhering to the one-China principle and supporting China's great cause of reunification.

At a meeting with Manuel Inocencio Sousa, minister of foreign affairs, cooperation and communities of Cape Verde, Hu said that despite the geographical remoteness between the two countries, the two peoples have maintained traditional friendship.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 25 years ago, the two countries have made considerable achievements in promoting the bilateral relationship and bilateral cooperation in various fields.

He said China is willing to work with Cape Verde to further cement the existing friendly relationship between the two countries, and exploit new ideas and new fields for expanding economic and trade cooperation so as to make the bilateral relationship closer and more vigorous in the new century.

The vice-president spoke highly of the unremitting efforts made by the government and people of Cape Verde in building their country, and the active role Cape Verde plays in maintaining regional peace and stability.

Sousa said that the two countries have a solid friendship. The Chinese government and people have always given great support to Cape Verde, both during its struggles for national independence and after the independence, and the government and people of Cape Verde are grateful for the support.

He said the government of Cape Verde attaches importance to developing relations with China and is determined to strengthen and deepen this relationship. Cape Verde has always stood on the Chinese side, and the government of Cape Verde will continue to support China, especially China's reunification cause.
