Chinese Prosecutors Uncover 1,700 Corrupt OfficialsChina's top prosecutor Han Zhubin said Friday that during the January-June period, Chinese prosecutors nationwide uncovered 25,073 cases of white-collar crime, involving 27,793 Party and government employees, of which 1,781 were above the county-head level.As a result, prosecutors helped to retrieve a loss of 1.58 billion yuan of economic loss for the state, said Han, procurator general of the Supreme People's Court at a national teleconference. He noted that in the first half of this year, procuratorial organs at all levels throughout the country gave prominence to the most serious corruption cases involving high-level officials. Prosecutors have actively become involved in the current campaign to crack down on crime, and the national drive of regulating the market, he said. He pledged that in the second half of this year, the investigation of white-collar crime shall be strengthened. Eradicating the "umbrella" of the evil force should be the focus of the present prosecuting work, the keystone of pushing forward the anti-corruption drive, and the emphasis of the work of investigation and impleading, Han said. He told prosecutors nationwide that no matter what unit or which person is related, corruption cases should be dealt with in strict accordance with the law in spite of all kinds of resistance.
