Chinese, Cape Verde Foreign Ministers Meet in Beijing

China values the traditional friendship with Cape Verde and is willing to work with the African country to further cement the existing cooperative ties, Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan said Thursday.

China will also join hands with Cape Verde to explore new ways to boost the mutual beneficial cooperation so that the bilateral relations will develop at a new level in the new century, Tang said at a meeting with Manuel Inocencio Sousa, minister of foreign affairs, cooperation and communities of Cape Verde.

Tang hailed the steady and healthy development of the bilateral relations since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 25 years ago, and expressed appreciation of Cape Verde's adherence to the one-China policy and its support for China's reunification cause.

Sousa said the government of Cape Verde attaches importance to the development of the friendship with China, which has a long history, and is grateful to China for its long-term selfless aid.

The opening ceremony of the embassy of Cape Verde in China Thursday morning demonstrated the African country's willingness to keep a close relationship and strengthen cooperation with China, he said.

Cape Verde will, as always, firmly support China's reunification cause and hopes it will be realized at an early date, he added.

Sousa, who arrived here Wednesday for an official visit, chaired this morning's opening ceremony of the embassy of Cape Verde in Beijing.
