12 Chinese Firms Rank Among Fortune's List of 500

Some 12 Chinese companies are included in US magazine Fortune's latest list of the world's top 500 enterprises, an increase of two over last year's figure. Sinopec, State Power Corporation and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) even rank among the first 25 of Asian firms.

Exxon Mobil Corporation has outdone the US General Motors, a champion for four straight years, to rank first on Fortune's latest list of top 500 global firms, throwing General Motors to the third placing. The runner-up is held by Wal-Mart, a chain-store tycoon. The companies listed from 4th to 10th placing come in order as follows: Ford, Daimler-Chrysler, Shell, British Petroleum, General Electric, Mitsubishi and Toyota.

Petrochina and China Mobile enter the list this year for the first time, adding the total number of Chinese companies up to 12 in Fortune's list of 500. The three Chinese companies listed in the foremost are Sinopec, ranking 68th globally and 21st in Asia, State Power Corporation, 77th globally and 22nd in Asia, with revenue of around US$42.55 million; and Petrochina, 83rd globally and 23rd in Asia, with revenue of well over US$41.68 million.
