Ministry of Education Intensifies Support to Universities in Western Regions
Ministry of Education will take effective measures to intensify the support to the corresponding universities in western regions. This was revealed from the seminar on supporting the corresponding universities in western regions held by the Ministry.
The meeting has made 13 pairs of universities as the partnership universities, such as Peking University and Xinjiang Shihezi University, Tsinghua University and Qinghai University, etc. The Ministry will also enhance its support to the universities of western regions by national debt investment so as to form a group of key universities there. In addition to the financial investment, the Ministry will also intensify the support to the colleges and universities there with financial credit, loans provided by commercial banks and world financial organizations. The emphasis will be laid on the construction of provincial and universities network in the western regions as part of China Educational and Scientific Research Network so as to make it a "Demonstration Project for Computer Network in Campuses of Western Regions".
As sources say, the Ministry of Education will help train 1,000 teaching and management personnel and 100 backbone elements to work in research units or institutions for the western regions in three years.
