China Publishes Book on Women Studies

Nowadays Chinese women have more important roles in all walks of life and won much more respect, contrary to the past in China when women used to be neglected, oppressed and trodden on by traditional values thousands of years ago.

The improvement in the attitude toward women is showcased by a recent publication of a new book called "An Introduction to Women Studies", codified by Wei Guoying.

The new book, published by the Publishing House of Beijing University, consists of eight chapters dealing with the fundamental theories on women studies from four aspects, including definition of femininity, existence and development of women.

Women studies has come into being since the mid-20th century, but it was taught in universities just 30 years ago. In China, research on women began as late as in the 1980s.
