Vietnamese, DPRK Presidents Hold Talks

Vietnamese President Tran Duc Long and visiting President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Yong Nam held talks Wednesday in Hanoi, agreeing to broaden the cooperation between the two countries.

During the talks, Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong reiterated Vietnam's unchanged policy of support for the DPRK people's aspiration for peace and national reunification, and welcomed the outcome of the historical summit between the two Koreas in June 2000 as well as the recent peace developments on the Korean Peninsula.

Kim Yong Nam, who arrived here Wednesday for a four-day official goodwill visit, expressed his thanks to Vietnam for having rendered constant support to Korea's cause for peace and national unification.

The two leaders agreed to broaden cooperation in economics, science-technology, investment, commerce, culture-education, healthcare, sports and physical training, and tourism in line with the two countries' potential and conditions.

They also agreed to conduct negotiations for early signing of the agreement on investment promotion and protection, the agreement on avoidance of double taxation, and the agreement on judicial assistance.

The two sides expressed their desire for closer coordination at international forums and more positive contributions to international efforts for peace, stability, and cooperation for development in the Asia-Pacific and other regions of the world.
