Rural Chinese Communists on Jiang's July 1 SpeechRural Chinese Communists hailed the July 1 speech delivered by Jiang Zemin on the building of the Communist Party of China (CPC), saying the important speech will facilitate not only Party building but also the social and economic development in rural China.Zhao Jun, secretary of Shahe Township in Changping county in suburban Beijing, said the speech, which was delivered by Jiang, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, on July 1, marking the 80th founding anniversary of the CPC, is of great significance for guiding the Party's rural work. After studying the speech, Communist cadres in the township have a better understanding of their mission as Communists, and their working style has changed for the better, he said. Zhao said the party can win the support of the general public only by safeguarding their fundamental interests. Li Ziqing, secretary of the Party branch of Anjiaying village in Yuzhong county in northwest China's Gansu province, said, after studying Jiang's speech, that rural Communist cadres are more clear about their work priority. Li said rural cadres should, as called for by Jiang in his speech, improve themselves and learn more agricultural skills and knowledge and strive hard for the benefit of the people in a bid to represent the advanced productivity and interests of the general public. Many rural Communist cadres in east China's Shandong Province and southwest Sichuan Province described the speech as important for Party building and for rural cadres to improve themselves and lead local people to a better future.
