Forum on Development of West China to be Held in Xi'an
The 2001 West China Forum will be hosted by Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province from September 4-6, with the theme of the investment environment and opening up of China's vast western region
The largest international event held so far for boosting the modernization of western China, the forum will attract more than 300 Chinese officials at the ministerial level, Chinese entrepreneurs, presidents of some of the world's top 500 multinationals, international organizations' officials and ambassadors to China.
The three-day event, the second such after last year's forum in Chengdu, will be jointly sponsored by the Western China Development Office and the Information Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation and the Shaanxi provincial government.
Domestic and overseas participants are scheduled to discuss infrastructure construction, environmental protection, investment and market changes in western China after the country's entry into the World Trade Organization, organizers said.
