CS&S and Microsoft Join Efforts to Develop Security Encryption SystemWith the all-out support of the State Development Planning Commission, the Ministry of Information Industry, the Ministry of Public Security and the State Encryption Management Commission, China National Computer Software and Technology Service Corporation (CS&S), one of China's key enterprises, Friday signed an agreement with US Microsoft Corporation which authorized the CS&S to develop the security encryption mold for the new generation of Windows 2000 and the coming Windows XP Professional (Chinese edition) with approval from the China State Encryption Management Commission.That means CS&S will provide the commercial encryption part for information security (software and hardware) of the Chinese operational system. It is a great event in the development of China's information industry which signifies that the Chinese will universally use a domestically made lock in their Chinese Windows. Thus, the need for information security in major business fields such as government online project and the financial system will be initially met. Microsoft's "Windows" are an operational system widely used across the world. Related statistics show that the Microsoft operational system and office software have occupied 90 percent of the Chinese market. As everyone knows, information security is a very important content in the construction of a country's information industry. In a sense, the ability to guarantee information security is an important component part of comprehensive national strength, economic competitiveness, and national survival capability in the 21st Century. Encryption technology is the core-tech of information security technology. Obviously, under such circumstance, without the security products possessing independent intellectual property, State security, social stability and economic development cannot be effectively protected. China's independent development of the security encryption mold for Chinese Windows reflects the determination of the State departments concerned to tackle major problems in scientific research on the current urgently needed key technologies and to quickly change the situation in which core technology is under man's control. The cooperation between the Chinese and American companies had the all-out support from the Microsoft top leaders. Experts pointed out that supporting China's development of the security encryption mold for Chinese "Windows" is a very creative strategic measure adopted by Microsoft because worries about security will finally affect the popularization and application of Microsoft's operational systems in the Chinese market.
