Chinese, DPRK Leaders Exchange Greetings on Anniversary of Friendship TreatyTop leaders of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Tuesday exchanged messages of greetings on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the signing of the China-DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance which falls on July 11.Jiang Zemin, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, president of the PRC and chairman of the PRC Central Military Commission, Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of PRC and Zhu Rongji, premier of the State Council of the PRC, jointly exchanged messages of greetings with Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defense Commission of the DPRK, Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, and Hong Song Nam, premier of the Cabinet of the DPRK. In their messages, the two sides highly value the important role the treaty has played in consolidating and developing the friendly relations between the two countries and safeguarding regional peace and stability, reaffirm that it's the persistent stance of the parties and governments of the two countries to continue to solidify and develop the traditional China-DPRK friendship, and express the belief that the traditional friendship between the two countries will be further consolidated and strengthened. The treaty was signed by Chinese late Premier Zhou Enlai and DPRK's late President Kim Il Sung 40 years ago. |
