Hong Kong Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2002 Opens

The Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2002 will once again become a platform for fashion industry professionals to explore business opportunities and exchange market intelligence.

"With persistent expansion of the scale, the Hong Kong Fashion Week has reached new height this year," said Christopher Cheng, chairman of the Trade Development Council Garment Advisory Committee, at the opening ceremony, here Tuesday.

There are 506 exhibitors from 19 different countries and regions, reflecting a resumption of the industry momentum after recovery from the Asian economic turmoil, he added.

Among the exhibitors, 297 are from Hong Kong with the rest coming from overseas, including newcomers from Thailand, Vietnam, Canada, France, Portugal and the United States. The total number of exhibitors has increased by 12.4 percent as compared to last summer.

Apart from the exhibition, there are 10 fashion shows and six fashion industry seminars, which aim at alerting manufacturers and buyers to the latest market intelligence and fashion trends.

Among the series of events held during the week, the focal point of attention falls on the opening night with "Cathay Pacific Presents Hong Kong Fashion Extravaganza," the Hong Kong New Collection Fashion Award and Asia-Pacific Fashion Designers' Show.

The event runs until July 13, 2001.
