Vietnam, Laos Party Leaders Stress Friendly Cooperation

Chairman of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Khamtay Siphandon held talks with Vietnamese party leader Nong Duc Manh in Lao capital Vientiane Monday, both sides stressing to further develop traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation.

Khamtay Siphandon and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) Nong Duc Manh agreed to boost the bilateral comprehensive cooperation on the basis of developing the spirit of independence and self-reliance.

They emphasized that international relations should be based on fundamental principles, namely the respect for all nations' independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as respect for their rights to choose their own paths of development, non-intervention in each other's internal affairs, commitment not to use or threaten to use force, and settlement of all disputes through peaceful negotiations.

They affirmed their consistent policy to respect and develop the friendly and cooperative relations with neighboring countries; strengthen the traditional friendship, close neighborliness, and multi-faceted cooperation with Cambodia on the basis of respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, non- interference in each other's internal affairs, and equal cooperation for mutual benefit.

They are determined to boost the cooperation between ASEAN member countries, raise the efficiency and quality of the cooperation, and strive for a Southeast Asia of peace, stability, free from nuclear weapons and cooperation for common development and for the interest of all regional peoples.

Manh arrived in Vientiane this morning for a four-day official goodwill visit as guest of Chairman of LPRP Central Committee and President of Laos Khamtay Siphandon.
