FM Spokeswoman Praises OAU and AU
The Organization of African Unity (OAU) has completed its historical mission, and China wishes the succeeding African Union (AU) even greater success in creating a peaceful and prosperous African continent.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue made the remarks at the regular press conference Tuesday when asked to comment on the OAU's role and on the soon-to-be-established AU.
In the past 38 years, the OAU, as the most important regional organization in Africa, has made lasting contribution to Africa's national independence and political emancipation, and to the promotion of peace, stability and development of the continent, Zhang said.
The founding of the AU is another significant measure taken by the African nations to further strengthen solidarity, meet various challenges and realize African revitalization, She added.
