Chinese President Interviewed by Russian Journalists

Chinese President Interviewed by Russian Journalists
Chinese President Jiang Zemin gave an interview Tuesday morning to journalists from Russia's Itar-Tass news agency and Public Russian Television.

Jiang said that his upcoming state visit to Russia is the first one paid by the head of state of China at the outset of the new century.

It is also the first state visit of the head of state of China after Vladimir Putin assumed the post as Russian president, Jiang said.

During his visit to Russia, Jiang, together with President Putin and other Russian leaders, will sketch a long-term project for further development of bilateral relations, he said.

He will also deeply exchange views on important regional and international issues with the Russian leaders, the Chinese President said.

As strategic cooperative partners, China and Russia share the same or similar viewpoints on developing a bilateral relationship and dealing with important international issues, Jiang said.

He said he believes the leaders of the two countries will reach an extensive consensus during his visit.
