NE City to Hold International Sculpture Show

The International Changchun Sculpture Show 2001 on the theme "friendship, peace and spring" will be held in Changchun from July 15 to September 9.

Some 86 sculptors from 56 countries and regions including Russia, the United States, Britain, Italy, France and Mexico will display their art works in northeast China's Jilin Provincial capital.

This year's show is the fifth and last one to be held by the municipal government and the National Urban Sculpture Construction Steering Committee. The previous four successfully attracted worldwide attention.

Liu Tianfu, an official in charge of the show, said that the show has provided opportunities for overseas artists to learn more about China and has helped the northeast city to position its opening image.

The exhibits in the five sculpture shows will be collected in an international sculpture park now under construction, according to Liu, adding that the city is also planning to be developed into a city of sculptures.
